What a Type Specimen Sheet Is For
A specimen sheet is the oldest quality-control tool in typography. Foundries have printed them since the 16th century for one reason: a typeface behaves differently on paper than it does in a dropdown menu. Counters close up, hairlines vanish, and spacing that looked generous at 48 pt turns muddy at 9 pt. Printing one A4 page tells you in ten seconds what an hour of on-screen previewing will not.
This generator lays out the six things that actually matter: the full uppercase and lowercase alphabet, the numerals and punctuation you will inevitably need, a size waterfall from display down to caption, the available weights side by side, and a real paragraph so you can read the texture rather than admire individual letters. Pick a font, tune the content, download the PDF, print it.
Everything runs client-side. The sheet is drawn onto an HTML5 canvas at up to 450 DPI and wrapped into a PDF with jsPDF inside your browser. If you upload a font file it is read with the FontFace API from local memory — it is never transmitted, which matters when you are evaluating a licensed or unreleased typeface.
How to Use It
1. Choose your source. Google Fonts covers 70+ of the most-used families grouped by sans, serif, monospace and display. System fonts show what a visitor sees with no web font loaded at all. Upload handles your own TTF, OTF, WOFF or WOFF2.
2. Set the display weight and, if you want, italic. Fonts that ship multiple weights populate the dropdown automatically.
3. Replace the headline and paragraph with the real copy from your project. A specimen set in your own words is worth far more than one set in a pangram.
4. Toggle sections off if you want a sparser sheet, switch to landscape for wider waterfall lines, then export at 300 DPI for printing or 150 DPI for sharing.
